Daniel John Burke, age 89 of North Wildwood passed away on June 2, 2022. Daniel was known by his family and friends as "Buddy" and was described as a great guy and a true gentleman by all – and he truly was. Born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, Daniel was a graduate of West Catholic High School. After high school, Daniel served in the US Army during the Korean War and became a proud member of the VFW. He later worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard where he took on many different roles and the Department of the Navy – Naval Civilian Personnel Command. Daniel also served as the President of the Pipefitters Union and President of Saint Barnabas, Home & School Association. In his free time, Buddy enjoyed gardening, taking long walks, and bike rides. He loved sitting out in the hot sun with a cold beer while listening to the Phillies game on the radio. Where he was most happy was spending time with his family, especially down the shore with his bride. Along with his beautiful wife Mary "Sissy" Burke, Daniel was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Mary Burke, and his son-in-law William L. Gillen. Survivors: Loving father to daughter Mary Burke Gillen (Michael), cherished grandfather of Daniel (Lauren) Burke and Sean Patrick Gillen, dear great-grandfather of Brooke Lyn Mary, special cousin of Louise Suters, brother-in-law of Betty Ann Ryder, and other special cousins, family, and friends. Burial: 12 Noon on Friday, 6/10, at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1056 Seashore Rd. Cape May, NJ 08204 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org/donate or your local Animal Shelter in memory of Daniel.
