Josephine Marchesani “Josie” age 88 of Woodlyn formerly of Southwest Philadelphia passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022 at home.  

 

Born and raised in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia, Josie graduated from St. Gabriel’s Catholic Grade School and West Catholic Girls High School.   

 

She retired after working 30 years for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company in the tax department and previously for the Quartermaster in South Philadelphia during the war time.

 

She was a devoted parishioner of Notre Dame De Lourdes Church where she met many friends and together they enjoyed Daily Mass, praying the rosary, cleaning the church and making crafts for the OLP Christmas Bazaar. 

 

Being active, staying busy and doing for others was top on her list, she enjoyed her line dancing groups, the Ridley Seniors, Ridley Schoolhouse, Golden Age Club and driving her friends around for errands but most of all she enjoyed doing for children and grandchildren.

 

She enjoyed family gatherings and holidays.

She was a tremendous cook who made almost every meal from scratch with her magic pots. She enjoyed sewing and weekend trips the beach with her family.

 

In her earlier years while raising her children, Josie was involved with St. Barnabas School where she helped in the library and was a CYO mom. She enjoyed bowling at the Elmwood Lanes and played the piano.

 

She will be missed dearly.

 

She is predeceased by her husband Angelo R. Marchesani Sr., son Michael Marchesani, grandson Dominic Marchesani, granddaughter Stephanie Marchesani, sister Marianna Dorian and brother in law Stephen Skalicky.

 

Survivors:  Loving mother of Joseph (Lorraine) Marchesani, Maria (Effie) Concepcion, Paul (Maria) Marchesani and Angelo (Trish) Marchesani, mother in law of Colleen Marchesani, grandmother of Joanna, Gabriel, Ava, Valentina, Nina(Kyle), Rebecca (Craig), Christina, Paul, Heather, AJ, Nicholas, Laura and Michael, great grandmother of 4, dear sister of Billy Cowchok, Betsy Skalicky, Madeline (Dave) Tunison, cousin Fred (Lea) Turner, brother in law Dominic(Rita) Marchesani, sister in law Rita DiPietro and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Mass: 11am Saturday at Notre Dame de Louses Church, Fairview Rd, Woodlyn, PA. 19094

 

Visitation: 9:30-11am in the church

 

Burial: SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA
