Ryan J. Mroz, 40, of Brookhaven, formerly of Philadelphia and Buffalo, New York passed away on December 26, 2022, peacefully at home.

Ryan was born on April 21, 1982 to Kennth and Barbra Mroz of Hamburg, New York. Ryan attended Temple University where he majored in Risk Management and Insurance. While at Temple, Ryan was involved in Gamma Iota Sigma, an international professional fraternity organized to promote, encourage and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management and actuarial science as professions. Ryan belonged to the Sigma Chapter at Temple University, where he was the Director of Alumni Affairs and mentored underclassmen that were in the Risk Management and Insurance Program. Ryan also worked alongside many of the acclaimed Risk Management and Insurance professors at Temple University, when he worked as a Teaching Assistant. Ryan was also a member of the CPCU Society, an affiliate of The Institutes, where he had invaluable networking and professional development opportunities. Ryan was also a member of the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the world's largest community dedicated to the advancement of risk management. Ryan belonged to the Delaware Valley Chapter of RIMS, where he was given invaluable educational, networking, and internship opportunities.

Ryan interned with the NAPSLO partnering company, Sompo International, in Alpharetta, Georgia, and Bass Underwriters in Plantation, Florida. In 2017, Ryan received the Spencer Scholarship from The Spencer Foundation, which stimulates, promotes, and encourages promising undergraduates and graduates of the risk management and insurance discipline in fulfilling their educational goals by providing scholarship awards and educational grants. Ryan graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Risk Management and Insurance, and Finance.

Ryan resided with his life partner of twelve years, Nicole Strollo. Nicole and Ryan have one child, Olivia Elizabeth Mroz.

When Ryan first moved to the Philadelphia area, he worked as a Poker Dealer at Harrah's Chester Casino. After graduating from Temple, Ryan worked at Admiral Insurance Group in Mount Laurel, NJ for four years as an Underwriter working in medical professional liability.

Most recently, Ryan worked at Connected Risk Solutions in Atlanta, GA as a Senior Account Executive working in medical professional liability, social services, and life sciences.

Ryan was an avid ice hockey player from early childhood to high school, playing on school and travel teams. Ryan was also an avid hunter. Ryan's hobbies included playing poker and watching college and professional sports. Ryan enjoyed rooting for his hometown teams, the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabers, as well as his adopted teams the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Flyers. Ryan also enjoyed cooking and creating new dishes. He especially loved using his smoker to make barbecue ribs and brisket. Ryan especially enjoyed spending time down at The Jersey Shore.

 

Ryan is survived by his loving life partner and best friend Nicole Strollo, cherished daddy of Olivia Elizabeth Mroz, dear son of Barbara Smith, loving brother of Lindsay (Nate) Ives and his extended Pennsylvania family, parents of Nicole, Ernest Sr. and Donna Strollo and their children Danielle (Brian) Levy-Polis and Ernest Jr. (Dorota) Strollo and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

Ryan was preceded in death by his father Kenneth P. Mroz, his grandparents George and Genevieve Garbutt and Paul and Martha Mroz.

 

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. at St. Kevin's Church,

200 West Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA 19064

 

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Kevin's Church, 200 West

Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA 19064 with Father Mike Davis presiding.
