I just learned of Joyce’s Homegoing when I saw her name in Grace’s obituary shared by her family. I didn’t know they were sisters. I knew them both separately and never made the connection. What a testimony of God’s grace in both of their lives as He used them to touch so many lives.

I remember many wonderful things about Joyce but the memory that stays with me the longest and strongest was how she cared about our children. She knew them, she asked about them every time we met her and most important, she prayed for them. TCKs have great potential but they also have a rough road to travel. Joyce learned about that road and helped our children on that journey. Jim Tebbe

It has been a unique blessing and a pleasure to have known Joyce since I was a child (54 year years old now). My family have known the Eckardts for decades and both our families grew up together thru the years as Ralph was my Pastor in my childhood church for many years and Joyce faithfully served along side him. Her ministries were numerous and she was a pleasure to be around. I can remember vividly every Easter we saw each other, she would say to me, "He (Jesus ) has risen" and I would respond, "He has risen indeed". It is that truth that now allows Joyce to enjoy her eternal reward with our Savior. You will be missed Joyce, but Christ has promised that we that love Him will all be together forever one day.
With Christ's Love, Keith Garrity

Joyce was my first Sunday School teacher in the ‘50s (after Mrs. Bonsall’s nursery) and yes, I do remember her flannelgraph stories, Jesus walking on water, Loaves & Fishes, Daniel in the lion’s den! As we sat around the curved table with (teenage) Joyce in the center (who looked very tall to us), she was very sweet and patient with us little gigglers.
By the time we were teenagers (still giggly), Ralph and Joyce were married. She was always behind the scenes supporting Ralph as he directed the youth group. What fun we had together with the many trips, dinners, skits, choir, hymn-sings. (In my lifetime, no other voice could match Ralph’s singing How Great Thou Art).
He was always there for us, planned and drove us to every event in the VW bus, always inspiring us with his teaching and kindness, leading us in prayer or in song and always delivering us safely to our door at the end of the day. Although I lived just two blocks from the church, I always begged to go on the ride to take everyone home. Ralph never said no. I think he knew how I hungered for the companionship of my peers. But in his heart, no doubt, he just wanted to hurry home for Joyce’s welcoming embrace.
Throughout those days of youth, Joyce supported Ralph, graciously sacrificing her time with him as part of their ministry together. They were incredible role models. They gave each of us in the youth group a sense of belonging and caring, and an understanding of God’s love and His place in our lives.
Ralph and family, I pray that your hearts will be comforted as you gather with loved ones in sorrow and in joy to say goodbye to an amazing woman and celebrate her life well lived. Until we all meet again where all our tears will be wiped away, God bless.

My Precious Joyce:
Your Love for Jesus was always evident to me and to many others. “Your HEART;Christ’s HOME!
I had the privilege of walking alongside of you and Ralph in global ministry until the Lord called my dear husband, Bill home to be with Jesus. Precious times; precious memories.
Entrance into heaven will be glorious when you see Jesus face-to-face. Welcome HOME!
Love,

As high school classmates at Interboro High School, I got to know Joyce very well, along with our memories in the youth group together at Maranatha Tabernacle. Though our ways parted, us to Brazil, we enjoyed the more recent communications that came and especially her heart for TCK,'s. Our field years were cut short due to illness of our daughter, but we saw our own children as TCK's and it taught them to have tender hearts toward people of other ethnicities through their years into their adult years.
Our hearts go out to Ralph and your kids. We did not get to know them well but we have fond memories of Joyce.
