Joan Day (née Karcher) of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully in her home on July 1, 2018, surrounded by family. Joan was born on December 13, 1950 in Philadelphia to Richard and Sarah Karcher. She attended St. Cecilia and graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1968. She was the long-time office manager of Twer Eye Care Associates. Joan is survived by her husband, Anthony (Tony) Day; her three children: Thomas McGarrity and his wife Rae of Westlake, Texas, Matthew McGarrity and his wife Jennifer of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and Allison Cointot and her husband Keith of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania; her stepson Gabriel Day and his wife Amy of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; and her six grandchildren: Preslie, Tommy, Matty, Kate, Jackson, and Chase. Joan is also survived by her brother, Richard Karcher and his wife Carol; her sister, Sally Lokich; and her niece, Michelle Lokich. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Joan's life on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 10:30AM at McCausland Garrity Marchesani Funeral Home, 343 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA 19036. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
