Recently I was sorting pictures of my life and I especially looked for pictures of Phil Falcone, whom I knew in Turkey when he was stationed there at the base in Karamursel. He was in the Navy but stationed on land, and then was stationed on a destroyer in the Mediterranian. We hung around together in the summer of 1959. Phil was a super guy, a lover of life and joy and just a wonderful, decent person. I was turning 16, from New York City and we used to joke about New York and Philadelphia. In a group of Navy guys, Marines and civilian dependents (teenagers - me and others) we went swimming, boating, bowling, and most of all dancing and talking. I taught Phil how to Cha Cha (New York style) and he and I did the lyndy until we dropped, laughing and joking the whole time. We loved each other but not romantically, but more like a big brother and little sister. I never forgot his decency (Navy guys were rather bold, but not Phil), and his wonderful love of life and joy. Thinking about what he was still fills me with joy. I was so happy he lived a good life, loved by everyone and had a loving, warm family. I am truly sorry I only located him now through a death announcement, but the internet made it possible. My sincerest condolences to his children and to his extended family and friends.
